The ILS Creation 

The Institute for Labor Studies  was founded  in 1980 under the name  “Instituto Nacional de Estudios Laborales”, as an initiative of Professor Lupo Hernández Rueda, who along with professors  Pablo Nadal, José Manuel Glass Mejía and Luis Henry Molina, decided to organized educational activities and publish research papers and studies related to human labor.

In 1984,  the ILS was constituted formally as a non-profit organization by the Dominican Republic Presidencial Decree No. 2007, dated May 17, 1984, under the provisions of Law 520 of  1920, and under  the name  “Instituto de Estudios del Trabajo, Inc.”

Since its foundation, ILS has contributed in more than 50 publications from several authors and has developed numerous seminars and workshops about labor and social legislation.

Since its beginnings, the president of ILS institution has been  Dr. Lupo Hernández Rueda. Dr. Carlos Hernández Contreras, since 1992, has been appointed Executive Vicepresident, being responsible for editing the books and studies and developing education  programs (workshops and seminars).
